2 Story House in Wattala, Colombo.

In this simple but beautiful housing project, the architectural design is done by the MUSE ARCHITECTURAL STUDIO by Architect: Chathura Perera. The structural design is by the Adorable Building Designs by Chartered Structural Engineer, Isuru S. Amarasena. The design was quite simple with a living area, dinning area, kitchen, a bathroom and a bed room with an attached bathroom in the Ground floor. The first floor is consisted with Family room, common toilet, one bed room and the master bed room with an attached bathroom. The walls around the living area are double height and it is visible to the family area on the first floor. Balconies are provided to all rooms and living and family areas to feel the surroundings and aroma around.

Here in this design we did some small changes by considering the environment greenery. An existing coconut tree was inside the building premises and we avoided the cutting of the tree by incorporating the design again by providing a visible void area next the landing of the staircase. So that we could save the coconut tree.

The roof slab is designed with an inaccessible part and an accessible roof terrace for ceremonial purposes with approved water proofing details. Inaccessible part is to covered by pebbles and maintaining a small slope with the finishes the accumulating rain water will be taken in to the down pipes. A room area is provided in the roof slab and on the top of that water tank is to be placed on a slab.

Pad foundations were proposed to the substructure of the building and sizes were decided according to the available soil conditions. As the availability of silty soil and by considering the nature of the soils around wattala area, 9"x9" tie beams were proposed with 4 T12 bars inorder to avoid the differential settlements. Shown below are some of the images during the placement of Pad foundations.

Screed concrete before the placement of Pad foundation reinforcement is shown in the below image.

Shown below are some of the images during the placement of Tie beam in order to connect each and every column together to act as a single solid object in order to prevent the differential settlements.

Shown below are some of the images during the construction of columns. Inside columns 4T12 were used as the main reinforcement in many of them and in few of them 4T16 bars were used by considering the higher values of column loads and moments on them.

Titanium and terrazzo floors are planned to be included in the design during the finishing stages to have a unique smart look as mentioned below.

Below images are also taken during the construction stage before finishing works.
