The structural design is done by Chartered structural engineer, Isuru S. Amarasena. Subsoil was consisted with a small layer of filled transported soil and pad foundations were placed under that layer by going to a minimum depth of 3 feet in to the ground. 6 feet x 6 feet pad footing with a thickness of 15 inches had to be used for the maximum loaded column foundation in the middle of the house. This happened because of larger spans , three floor slabs and heavy loads on that. There also were minimum size footings such as 3 feet by 3 feet pads and 3.5 feet by 3.5 feet pads as well. All the columns are tied very well in the ground floor using 9 inch by 9 inch tie beams with 4 number of T12 reinforcement bars in order to improve the robustness of the structure and also to avoid any kind of differential settlement due to unforeseen differences of the soil parameters. Though the spans are a bit larger we were able to manage the beam sizes only with 9"x12" and 9"x14" sized floor beams by adjusting the reinforcement bar requirements. All the columns were 9"x9" in size and for few of them 4T16 bars were used for vertical reinforcements and for the others 4T12 bars were adequate according to the structural design. a 3D modal was developed for structural purposes using Etabs and according to the results of them, a relatively economical design outcome appeared.
Below shown are few photos taken during the construction stage.
